Two men attempted to steal money from a new Tesco Express store in Bourne End at the weekend, using screwdrivers to try and open tills inside.

The store, in The Parade, was only officially opened on February 3 and it is the second shop to be targeted by thieves in the village in the last week.

It is believed the men entered the shop shortly before 6.40pm on Saturday evening.

The attempted robbery follows a theft on Sunday, February 15, when men stole money from the BP petrol station, also in The Parade, after forcing staff to open their tills.

However, Thames Valley Police have not yet been able to confirm any description of the people involved in the latest incident and no further details about the investigation have been released.

Anyone who has information about this attempted robbery should contact police on 101.
