Update: Man charged with attempted murder after gunshots fired in Cookham.

Gunshots were fired in front of two children after an argument broke out in Cookham yesterday, in what police are treating as an attempted murder.

A 40-year-old woman, a 42-year-old man and two children were in a stationary blue Volkswagen Golf when a man approached their vehicle at about 5.15pm in Sutton Road.

A row broke out between the people in the car and the man, who then produced a gun.

Two shots were fired and the man left the scene. Police said no-one was injured in the “frightening” incident.

A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and firearm offences. He is currently in custody.

Supt Kate Ford, LPA Commander for Maidenhead, said: “This was a frightening incident for those involved, and the fact that a firearm was discharged in front of children who were in the car is unacceptable.

“Fortunately no one was physically hurt. Early indications are that this was a targeted attack and there are no outstanding suspects.

“Incidents like this are extremely rare however we are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

“Officers are in the area making enquiries today and I would encourage anyone with any concerns to approach them or to call 101.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Emma Brown via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
