Robbers burst into a petrol station and threatened staff with a hammer in the early hours, before escaping in a white van found burned out nearby.

Police said they were called to the Esso station on the A40 in Holstpur, near Beaconsfield, at 3.29am after two men arrived in a white van and carried out the robbery.

The attackers fled with cash and cigarettes after threatening staff with the weapon, but nobody was injured in the frightening ordeal.

Police then found a burned out van in Holstpur cemetery this morning.

The two men are both described as between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall, and of athletic build. CCTV footage is currently being reviewed.

The garage has been cordoned off by police since this morning while an investigation is carried out.

A forensic team has also been seen at the scene.

It comes just two weeks after the BP service station in Bourne End was targeted, though police have not said whether the two crimes are linked.

If you have any information on the incident, call investigating officer Detective Sergeant Tracey Benham on 101.
