The victim of an unprovoked attack which left him with a broken hip says he is still in constant pain more than four months later.

Montgomery Bacchus was attacked in High Street at just after midnight on January 6.

The 50-year-old said he was putting his guitar in the back of a taxi when he was approached from behind and was pushed over.

He said: “We were waiting for a taxi when this guy came up behind me and pushed me over. I didn’t even see him because he came up from behind. I fell to the ground and I passed out with the pain because my hip was broken.

“Because he came up behind me, I didn’t know anything about it and I had no chance to react.  I was passed out for about a minute. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I can usually stand my ground but I didn’t have a chance.

“I didn’t know what was going on. I was completely out of it. But I could see he was being arrested. I don’t know why he did it.”

Anthony Curtis, 34 of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm on March 13 and was sentenced to 12 months in prison on April 30, but Mr Bacchus says he thought the jail term should have been longer.

He said fours months on, he still “suffers every day” from his injuries and has trouble sleeping.

Mr Bacchus, who has lived in High Wycombe his whole life and has lots of friends there, now wants to move away from the area.

He said: “I am glad he has gone to prison, but I think he should have got longer in prison for what he did. He will be out in six months but I have to live with the pain. I know everyone around here, I’m friends with everyone. I would have never thought something like this would happen.

“For something like that to happen, I was shocked. I don’t want to be around this place now. “

Det Con Carl Wilson, investigating the case, said: “It is accepted that the offender may not have intended to cause such significant injury to the victim, however the attack was unprovoked and unnecessary and the effects of the night will remain with the victim for a long time.

“Curtis will at least have some time to reflect on his actions.”
