A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in a lay-by this morning.

The Major Crime Unit has confirmed a murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of the woman’s body at 8.36am in the A413 Amersham Road, in Gerrards Cross.

Officers have arrested a 50-year-old man from Hayes in Middlesex on suspicion of murder. 

The suspicious death is being investigated by the Major Crime Unit who are continuing to follow a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances of the woman's death.

The body of the woman has yet to be identified and her next of kin have not been informed.

A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow to establish a cause of death.

The road was closed for most of today, but has now been re-opened.

A scene watch is also currently in place.

Supt Yvette Hitch, LPA Commander for Chiltern and South Bucks, said: “Officers are at the scene working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of woman.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation. I would like to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident or who may have seen anything out of the ordinary in the area - please call 101 as soon as possible."

She added: "We are working with the Highways Agency to minimise disruption in the area. A scene watch remains in place.

“Officers from the local Neighbourhood Team are making house to house enquiries and patrolling locally to provide reassurance. If anyone has any concerns, please feel free to approach an officer.”

This morning’s shocking discovery has echoes of 2006 when the body of murdered 23-year-old model Beata Bryl was found in woodland in Wooburn Green. Her killer has not been found.
