A man has been sentenced to ten years in prison after he was found guilty of a firearm offence.

Frederick Evans, of Wabourne Road, Bourne End, was found guilty at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, July 7 of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

At around 5pm on February 22, Evans went to a property in Sutton Lane, Cookham with a loaded shotgun.

An argument started between himself and a man and woman in their forties at the property, who he knew.

Evans, 42, discharged the shotgun twice but nobody was injured in the incident.

He was convicted by a majority verdict following an 11-day trial and was sentenced on Wednesday, July 8 to ten years in jail.

Investigating officer Det Con Michelle Taylor, from the Thames Valley Police Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit (DAIU) in Windsor, said: “The DAIU and the victims are extremely pleased with the result from the crown court in relation to a very serious firearms offence.

"Frederick Evans was shown to have acted in a manner that put the lives of numerous members of the public at risk and we the police are grateful to the crown court and jury for recognising this risk and finding him guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

“The length of sentence passed shows the seriousness of the offence and delivers a message to the public that firearms offences are not taken lightly and Thames Valley Police will pursue all lines of enquiry to remove unlicensed firearms from our streets.”
