Police name Church Street murder victim as Lee Gillespie, 26, of High Wycombe

UPDATE: Three people charged in connection with murder.

Lee Gillespie was stabbed to death in Church Street at about 9pm on Saturday and some of his family members have now spoken of their horror following the killing.

Older cousin Michael Best described Mr Gillespie as a “good cousin as well as a friend” and his grandmother, Winnie Davies, said that he was a “lovely boy”.

Mr Gillespie is believed to be originally from Kirkcaldy, a town in Fife, Scotland.

Mr Best, who lives in Scotland, says Lee moved to High Wycombe with his father a few years ago and other family members have since made the journey to the town following the tragedy.

He said: “It’s a hard time for the family, such a shock. My cousin turned 26 last month and there’s six months between his oldest brother, me, then Lee.

“He was a good guy who didn't deserve this, a father of two who will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

“I don't know what else to say really, he was a good cousin as well as a friend and will be missed by all.”

Mr Best described the brutal murder as “disgusting” and says the family are still coming to terms with the loss.

Almost three days after he was killed, he has been formally identified and his next of kin have been informed.

Mr Gillespie was pronounced dead at the crime scene in Church Street shortly before 9pm on Saturday.

The emergency services were called to the scene at 8.50pm following reports of a stabbing, but despite giving the victim CPR, paramedics were unable to save him.

Following his death, hundreds of tributes have been posted online with flowers and messages also left at the scene.

One note was left outside All Saints Church, near to where the attack happened, believed to be addressed from one of Mr Gillespie's family members.

Residents and visitors of the town have been shocked by the attack, with a large cordon remaining in place while detectives continue their investigation.

Officers have also been in the area in a bid to reassure residents, with Chief Inspector Rebecca Mears speaking of her 'shock and sorrow' following the murder.

Three people remain in custody after being arrested in connection with the incident. A 30-year-old man had been arrested following the attack, but has now been bailed.
