A man who stole three calculators from a supermarket is adding up the cost of his crime after he was forced to pay more than £1,600 by magistrates.

Amersham resident John Yonge stole three calculators and groceries worth £43.50, but has now been left with a large court bill.

The 67-year-old stole the items from Tesco in London Road West, Amersham, and was found guilty by magistrates in High Wycombe earlier this month.

They fined him £275, asked for costs of £338 and a criminal court charge of £1,000, leaving him a total of £1,613 to pay.

The court agreed for the money to be paid in £20 weekly deposits.
