A special constable has been sacked for gross misconduct after an “incident” at a police training college.

Amersham-based SC Oliver O’Brien was dismissed from Thames Valley Police following a special case misconduct hearing today (Friday).

His behaviour was found to have amounted to gross misconduct in relation to discreditable conduct and honesty and integrity, following an incident.

The nature of the incident has not been confirmed by officers.

However, it has been confirmed that it took place while O’Brien was attending a course at the Probationer Development Unit at Sulhamstead Training College, between January 19 and January 23, 2015.

Det Ch Supt Tim De Meyer, head of the Force’s professional standards department, said: “We expect police officers to have high standards of behaviour both in their professional and personal lives and this is underpinned by the Code of Ethics.

“SC O’Brien’s behaviour fell short of the standards Thames Valley Police expects of those who serve the Force.

“I hope that his dismissal sends out a strong message to the public that we will investigate all reports of misconduct and deal robustly and swiftly with anyone who is found to have breached the standards expected.”

O’Brien has been found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour set out in the Schedule to the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2012.

He did not attend the hearing, which was held before the Chief Constable Francis Habgood.
