A High Wycombe man has spoken of his shock after a hole was blasted through his living room window with what he fears was a shotgun last night.

At around 10.45pm on Sunday night, a shot was fired through the front window of a house in Jubilee Road, police confirmed today.

UPDATE: Police release CCTV images of the incident

Three people were in the house at the time, but no one was injured.

A 30-year-old man who lives at the property, but wished to remain anonymous, said: “We have lived here 30 years and we have never had a problem.

“It’s quite shocking. We don’t have a grudge against anyone. It must have been a case of mistaken identity.

“I believe it was a shotgun used.”

Thames Valley Police are yet to confirm the type of weapon used in the attack.

The incident happened just metres away from the Jubilee Road mosque, where chairman of the Wycombe Islamic Mission Zafar Iqbal said the family regularly attend.

Mr Iqbal said: “I know the family whose house it was. They attend the mosque regularly and are very well respected in the community.”

A witness saw a person in dark clothing, possibly a man, running away from the scene, but no other description is available at the moment.

Mr Iqbal said the mosque does have CCTV outside and is said he is cooperating fully with the police.

A 23-year-old West End Road resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I only moved to the area less than two months ago.

“I knew parts of High Wycombe could be a bit rough before I came but having something as serious as this happen so close to where I live is very worrying.”

Deputy LPA Commander for High Wycombe, Ch Insp Rebecca Mears said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of Jubilee Road last night to contact police immediately.

“This is a very serious offence and it was lucky that no-one was injured. I would therefore urge anyone who knows anything about the incident, no matter how insignificant you think the information is, to please search their conscience and tell the police.

“Thames Valley Police is conducting a thorough investigation into the offence and will be conducting house to house enquiries in the area."

Anyone with information that could help the investigation should call the Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.
