Outstanding acts of compassion and bravery were commended by the superintendent in High Wycombe last night.

The Wycombe Commander's Commendation Awards Ceremony saw Superintendent Ed Mclean congratulate officers and members of the public for going above the call of duty at High Wycombe Cricket Club on London Road.

Among the recipients of the prestigious award was a group of officers who took down a savage dog to prevent it from causing further harm to the public.

Two civilians who assisted the police in stopping a woman from jumping off the Wycombe Swan car park were also applauded for their compassion and dedication to the community.

Spt Ed McLean said: “For us it is about recognising police officers who have gone above and beyond and show outstanding service and bravery.

“People assume that it may be easy to thank officers for their work but it is often difficult as everyone works at such a fast pace.

“The police sometimes get a hard time but they do work very hard and we like to thank them, and their families, and show that their work doesn’t go unnoticed.

“It is also great to commend members of the community who have assisted the police. Without the public we would not be able to do our job.”

The High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Francesca Skelton, also took the chance to hail the police force adding “we have one of the best justice systems in the world.”
