A witness appeal has been launched after a man suffered “significant” injuries to his face at a local league football match in Chesham.

It comes after a fight broke out between a player and supporter at the match in Botley Road Playing Fields on October 15 at around 3.45pm, where the supporter was knocked to the ground.

A 21-year-old man who had been playing football tried to help the supporter and in doing so, was hit in the face by another man.

He was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital and has since been discharged.

Investigating officer Det Con Lucie Roberts, from Aylesbury Force CID, said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident in which a man sustained a number of significant injuries to his face.

“If you saw what happened or have any details which could help the investigation, please come forward and speak to police.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
