Detectives hunting for clues after a woman was injured in a 'hit-and-run' are appealing for witnesses from High Wycombe after the vehicle believed to be involved was seen heading towards the town.

Gloucestershire Police are appealing for information after a 54-year-old woman was hit by a car which failed to stop at around 5.30am in Winnycroft Lane in Matson.

The woman sustained serious injuries to her leg, back and head and is being treated at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The car was recovered in the Thames Valley area and a 42-year-old man from Gloucester who has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains in police custody.

A statement from Gloucestershire Police said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw the car, a dark coloured Volkswagon Golf, registration number WL05 JVU, as it travelled out of Gloucestershire.

“We believe it was at Burford on the A40 at 6.10am yesterday and may then have used the back roads towards High Wycombe. It was later seen around 8.30am near Junction 6 of the A40 where it was later recovered.”
