A man went into N & N Newsagents, in Desborough Road, at around 7.25pm on Saturday (July 29) and threatened a customer with an object, which police believe was a knife.
He then demanded cigarettes from a staff member behind the till, before pushing the customer into a fridge.
After stealing the cash and cigarettes, he left on foot in the direction of Victoria Road and Abercrombie Avenue.
Police said there were no reported injuries.
The thief has been described as a white man in his 30s, slim with a slim face. He was reported to be wearing a cap (which he took off during the incident), a navy blue jumper with sleeves, and dirty white trainers.
