A 29-year-old man has been jailed for 18 months for dangerous driving after he drove at speed away from police who attempted to carry out a stop check.

Raheel Bashir from Tower Street in High Wycombe appeared at Amersham Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday, August 10.

Officers attempted to conduct a stop check on the car Bashir was driving on Arnison Avenue and Walton drive – however he failed to stop and made “various dangerous manoeuvres at high speed”.

He was charged with dangerous driving on April 21 and was found guilty by a jury following a two day trial at Amersham Crown Court.

As well as the custodial sentence Bashir was disqualified from driving for three years and nine months, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £140 and will have an extended driving test requirement in order to get his licence back.

Investigating officer, Police Constable Joseph Windsor from High Wycombe police station, said: "Bashir's conviction and the sentence he has received shows that this type of behaviour and manner of driving will not be tolerated by Thames Valley Police.

"On this offence, he showed complete disregard for public safety and for the law. For the safety of the public, it is important that drivers like Bashir are taken off our roads. I hope this sentence will make him reflect about the dangers he caused."
