A van driver has been convicted after his passenger was caught on camera dumping bags of cannabis waste at the side of the road in Burnham.

Mohammed Al Haddad, a 34-year-old man from St Peters Grove, Hammersmith, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping at Wycombe Magistrates' Court on August 2.

The court heard that at 12.20am on November 20 last year, Mr Al Haddad was filmed by a hidden camera installed by investigators from the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire at The Gore, Burnham, Buckinghamshire.

Images were taken of a passenger from Mr Al Haddad's van dumping a huge quantity of waste at the side of the road.

His solicitor told the court that Mr Al Haddad was paid to transport the bags of waste by a customer who travelled with him. The customer told Mr Al Haddad to pull over in The Gore, and proceeded to dump the bags by the roadside.

On investigation, it was found that the bags contained waste generated from the production of cannabis.

Giving credit for an early guilty plea, the magistrates fined Mr Al Haddad £584, ordered him to pay £1,000 towards the council’s costs, and levied a victim surcharge of £58. The total to pay was £1,642.

South Bucks district council cabinet member for environment Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: "This man was hired as a driver with a van, and ended up being complicit in fly tipping carried out by his customer.

"With our 24/7 surveillance cameras deployed at numerous fly tipping hotspots, anyone in charge of a vehicle that is involved in illegal dumping should be aware that they could well end up in court".
