A sledgehammer-wielding burglar broke into a High Wycombe bookmakers at the weekend.

At around 2.30am yesterday (Sunday) a man forced his way into Coral, in Mill End Road.

He fled in the direction of Dashwood Avenue after setting off the burglar alarm. Police confirmed nothing was stolen.

The man has been described as “stocky” and white. He was believed to be wearing a blue denim jacket over a dark green jumper, dark trousers and a black balaclava, and was reportedly carrying a sledgehammer.

Investigating officer PC Leigh Andrews, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any dash cam footage from the area at around 2.30am on Sunday.

“The noise of the burglar alarm would have drawn attention to the shop and it is fortunate this man was deterred so quickly.”
