Jury finds John McGrory guilty of murder

A JURY has found Wooburn man John McGrory guilty of murder – bringing loud cheers from the public gallery at Reading Crown Court.

The six male and six female jurors returned the verdict after deliberating for about an hour.

The ex-army serviceman looked downcast in the dock as the foreman announced the unanimous verdict – which prompted tears and cries of joy from family members of his wife Marie.

McGrory, 46, had admitted using a dog lead to strangle 39-year-old Marie at their Holtspur Avenue home on January 3.

But he denied murder, saying he could not remember the killing.

The Scotsman is set to be sentenced this afternoon.
