A TEENAGER whose whole life has changed after discovering his passion for gardening is looking for sponsorship to host his own space at a national flower show.
Nearly two years ago James Callicott, from Prestwood, left mainstream school after suffering at the hands of bullies.
It was in his garden in Fairacres that he discovered his greenfingered talent and through reading Gardener's World his spelling and grammar improved.
James' latest aim is to have gardening space in the small garden category at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July.
The show attracts 163,000 visitors but to put forward an application he needs to raise another £5,000 in sponsorship.
He said: “Building a garden for the show costs money.
“The Royal Horticultural Show provide a basic grant for successful applicants.
“However it is expected that entrants show they can raise funds items and budget. This is why I am asking for your help through sponsorship.”
In return the sponsor will get advertising space on the back of every leaflet given to around 20,000 people who will visit James' garden.
James has already raised £5,000 by selling donated goods and from people offering their spare time and help but the total cost will be £10,000.
His potential garden at the Hampton show will be based on “Why do painters paint plants?”
Half of the garden will be planted while the other half will be painted. An easel in the middle will have a replica of the garden but in reverse.
Mum Charlotte said: “I am absolutely stumped by James. This is the boy who three years ago was floundering and not progressing at all.
“Just how much he has come on has amazed me. I am very proud of him. He seems like a different boy.
“He was desperately unhappy three years ago but now he is happy, confident, he has matured and he can hold his own.”
