A BEACONSFIELD school has raised a record-breaking amount of money for its PTA with a balloon race that has so far reached Southend-on-Sea in Essex.

Butlers Court School on Wattleton Road is unable to confirm the final sum but estimates it to be “in the thousands” after releasing 280 balloons at its summer fair on Saturday.

It is still getting balloons sent back, each of which had a raffle ticket attached to it, and hopes to announce whose balloon flew furthest within the next couple of weeks.

Caroline Smith said: “It was a really successful day. Not only did we raise records amounts for the PTA but we put on a action-packed family fun day.”

The race, sponsored by clothing chain The White Stuff, was part of a range of activities at the Beaconsfield school fete which saw 400 people attend.
