AN action group has been launched to encourage pupils to cycle to school and improve bike routes in Beaconsfield.
Parents, residents and other interest groups have been invited to the inaugural meeting of Beaconsfield Cycle Paths action group, to be held at High March School this month.
The group will also look to encourage people to use a bike for short to medium distance journeys, and campaign for council-backed initiatives.
An invitation from travel representatives at High March, on Ledborough Lane, says: “This will be a great opportunity for school travel representatives, local interest groups and residents to raise awareness of the crucial importance, identified by many, for Beaconsfield to have an improved cycling network to enable children and adults alike to cycle safely through the town...
“Fewer cars on our streets mean less congestion, pollution and parking issues, coupled with all the health and fitness benefits which cycling can offer.”
The meeting is at 8pm on Wednesday, January 18, to be chaired by town councillor Matt Denyer. If you wish to attend, call 07813 837225 or e-mail Averyhome@aol.com by January 13.
If you are unable to attend, you can also express support or contribute to the debate by email.

This is a good idea, not patronising just offering encouragement and solutions. I think that many paths could be improved to accomodate cyclists and I think Wycombe, with the Masterplan has some exceptionally good ideas. Very supportive of these ideas in general as long as it is not at the expense of other road users.

Yesterday I was cycling on what I thought was part of the cycle path in Marlow when a man angrily said to me "that is a road". Strangely though he had parked his car on the cycle/footpath (I wished I had challenged him about this). Thinking about it now the cycle path may have crossed the road but the signs are non-existant.
Maybe it's a Marlow thing, but I have also had abuse from motorists in Marlow about cycling on the road as they point out that there is a cycle path. I suppose you just can't win.
