Conservative candidate Dominic Grieve, who is campaigning to be the MP for Beaconsfield for a fifth term, joked about his “sacking” from the role of Attorney General at a hustings event, last night.

He was appointed to the role as Attorney General after the General Election in 2010, but lost his place in the government inner-circle after a cabinet shake-up in July last year.

Following his dismissal, he said his support for the party remained strong and hoped the change would allow him to concentrate more on issues close to the heart of his constituents.

But, while summing up his plea for votes at the hustings event in The Beaconsfield School yesterday evening for a short time he spoke candidly about his dismissal.

He said: “I happen to think the government has done well in the last five years, heaven knows I have had disagreements with it, after all the Prime Minister sacked me.”
