DOCTOR-LED births and care for seriously ill children are among the services finally axed from Wycombe Hospital today.

Patients face a journey to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury as the changes, agreed five years ago, are finally put in place.

The following will not be allowed at Wycombe: • Children who need an overnight stay.

• Emergency children’s care for minor and serious illnesses and serious injuries.

• Neonatal care, also known as the special care baby unit (SCBU).

• Women who need a doctor-led birth.

• Women who need an overnight stay, before or after birth.

• Gynaecology patients who need an overnight stay.

The Bucks Free Press re-launched its Hand Back Our Hospital campaign last week to call for the services to stay at the hospital.

We also want accident and emergency services to be restored after serious trauma cases were snatched away in 2005.

If you are about to give birth in the newly revamped maternity unit in Aylesbury then we want you to tell us about your experiences good or bad.

The BFP has campaigned relentlessly since the shake-up plans were first proposed in early 2004.

Thousands of readers backed us, but the moves still went ahead. Now the paper is having one more try.

Wycombe Hospital will continue to provide appointments and operations that do not require an overnight stay. Low-risk women can give birth with midwives only present.

if there was any way that the public could do to help, I would be with them all the way. It's so very very scary knowing that you have to travel miles to Stoke Mandeville with sick children etc., especially when you don't drive and something occurs in the middle of the night.
£25 taxi fare is a lot of money to find out of the blue!!

I think that the people of Wycombe need a Flagship to fight under. They need a group of people who cares and are willing to stand up and fight and be counted. The born and breed Bucks people i think would fight to put Wycombe back on the map as a up and coming town with loads of potenial. But it needs the powers to be told that WYCOMBE MEANS A LOT TO ALL THE PEOPLE in it. If it needs to be Let us all cause some disruption, Hold a Meeting well publisised out side the hospital, GET US NOTICED. Because that seems to be the only way the powers to be will listern.CAUSE AS MUCH CHAOS AS POSSIBLE.
That is the only way we are going to get back on the map.

Fine words from all above but from the wrong perspective.i have not seen one doctor, ambulance crew or nurse say this is wrong.No cries of betayal from those on the front line.So lets wait and see if this is wrong.Ambulances are no longer just meat wagons,they have highly skilled. paramedics on board and no dought the equipment to be a mini hospital.
Gailxx If your child is ill get an ambulance I here no mention of you not being able to call one

ferrellcat -- I agree yes that you get an ambulance, but if your child has a family etc. the family has problems all round with all the upheaval of travelling miles after the child is kept in etc. There are lots of reasons why it is hard to cope. ie --- my 3 year old granddaughter was very ill on saturday night so I had to take her to hospital (because my daughter has only just had a baby by caesarian 2 weeks ago and her husband has to stay with her to look after her and her new baby ok) -- if we had to have stayed in the ward, it would have been in Stoke Mandeville, it would have been terribly awkward for us all to arrange all the travelling back and forth etc. cos none of us drive. We are not millionaires, so we would have found it very expensive with akll the taxi fares etc.

Where have you been Ferrell Cat? Up a gum tree I expect as the nurses and doctors are GAGGED by the hospital Trust board and the PCT: They are banned from talking to the press, or expressing their views in public or they face disciplinary action, even the SACK.

So come on stop bickering and let’s have some action from the people of High Wycombe and Marlow. Freedom is NOT free and you will not get to keep your hospital unless you FIGHT for it.
Get behind the Bucks Free Press to campaign to get our services back. By taking off 4 floors of the hospital this makes it easier for them to close it down as they will have less and less patients to treat, then it will be, “ We have les patients so it’s not worth keeping it open” Where have you heard it all before. Why from the Hospital Board that has just awarded itself a 19% pay rise.
Anne Eden gets well in excess of £150,000 a year, that’s £7,800 a week; more than an old age pensioner gets to live on for a year! With other benefits, pension etc that works out at nearly a quarter of a million £!!! Ask your selves the question. Is she worth it? Deliver a Hospital Trust which is the worst in England, now gives less service to the people of Wycombe and Marlow and get paid an excessive salary. CAN I HAVE A JOB PLEASE?
Wake up Wycombe and Marlow or you will lose your hospital completely.
