Don't come here says A&E crisis hospital

A HOSPITAL which takes Bucks patients today admitted it is in the middle of an A&E crisis because of pressure on beds.

Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust urged people to only come to A&E in a ‘critical or life threatening situation’ because of pressure on beds.

It said it is “experiencing huge pressures with the numbers of incoming patients and availability of beds”.

It has declared a “serious untoward incident” and is cancelling operations and discharging patients to free up beds.

Wexham Park Hospital, in Slough, takes south Buckinghamshire patients along with Wycombe Hospital – which stopped treating serious trauma patients in 2005 – and Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury.

The trust said: “We are appealing to the public to only come to A&E in a critical or life threatening situation.

“A&E departments provide immediate emergency care for people who show the symptoms of serious illness or who are badly injured.”

It urged people to contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or their GP.

Similar calls have been made recently by Bucks NHS chiefs in a bid to cut down on A&E attendances.

The statement said: “As always, the patients are our primary concern.

“The safety of patients and their care will continue to be the main consideration with any decisions made.

“The situation is being monitored on an hourly basis.”

isn't the real story that there is an outbreak of Norovirus and they are trying to contain it?

Yes, Erm is correct, once gain the BFP have been given the wrong steer on a story and because of the inexperience of the reporting staff have swallowed it hook, line and sinker.

Please be aware that Norovirus is rampant across Trust facilities at this time so only attend for a life-threatening emergency. The situation should improve during the remainder of January.

How about that, is accurate and gives the public the information they need.

If you catch it you'll certainly know all about it soon enough! It's also known as 'winter vomiting disease' - a bit of an understatement I gather.

Norovirus is 2 days of liquids coming from both ends at the same time, and very often...and spreads like wildfild. Can be fatal in the poorly and old, so hospitals are a huge risk but it doesn't worry about who it infects, staff, visitors, visitors families or patients.

when I said it spreads like wildifire, I dont mean the liquids from both ends...I meant the infection

And the tragedy is , it is almost always started in the community and brought into hospitals. A relative of mine was unlucky enough to have it when they were in hospital a few years ago. The ward was closed to admissions and when they traced the source, it was down to another patient's relative who had come to see them with a very upset stomach. It spread like wildfire - really nasty illness,. I think that is why hospitals always ask people NOT to come in if they have upset stomachs or have had diarrhoea and sickness within 48 hours.
