Stop smoking clinics this week

MOBILE NHS clinics are being held in Buckinghamshire this week in a bid to help people stop smoking.

Bosses say the clinics ‘will reach out to communities where smoking is at its highest levels, and offer help to smokers to quit’ including ethnic minorities.

Tomorrow is No Smoking Day and chiefs say 600 people a year die in Bucks ‘as a direct result of smoking’.

Information will be presented in languages including Polish, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi as part of the drive, to be provided by Solutions 4 Health Ltd.

Project director Leena Sankla said: “The scheme aims to break down barriers and to help ensure everybody has access to support to successfully quit smoking and the opportunity to adopt a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

“By taking our service to venues across the county we hope that we can offer participants the chance to take as much advantage of NHS stop smoking services as other members of the community.”

The sessions are:

Wednesday: Totteridge Park Mosque, 34 Totteridge Road, High Wycombe, HP13 6EB 11am – 1pm.

Thursday: Muslim Women Meeting, 1 Fleet Street, High Wycombe, HP14 4LL 3pm - 4pm.

Saturday 13th March: Chilterns Shopping Centre, High Wycombe, HP13 5ES 9am - 4.30pm and Sunday from 9.30am - 5pm.
