AN all-female choir from Amersham has taken the title of Good Housekeeping Choir of the Year 2010.
Amersham A Cappella outshone three other finalists in the prestigious annual competition with renditions of ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’’, ‘Joint is Jumpin’’ and ‘Somebody to Love’ at the Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair, London earlier this month.
The panel of judges included actress and author, Jane Asher, choral expert and judge of BBC One’s Last Choir Standing competition, Suzi Digby, DJ and TV presenter Margherita Taylor, as well as executive group publishing director of Good Housekeeping magazine, Liz Kershaw.
The 50-strong choir, formerly known as Chiltern Harmony, was founded in 1982 by the wives and girlfriends of a local male barbershop choir. A member of the Ladies’ Association of Barbershop Singers, the choir has twice won bronze in LABBS’ annual national competition and came fourth in the European Championships in 2009.
It will now perform at the Good Housekeeping charity carol concert at Grosvenor Chapel on December 9.
