Pioneering Chinese Olympic hopeful visits Amersham

CHINA'S first-ever equestrian Olympic three day event hopeful paid a visit to one of Bucks' training camps.

With less than six months to go until the start of the 2012 Games Alex Hua Tian was at the Shardeloes Equestrian Centre on Wednesday to take a look at the facilities.

He moved his 11 horses there in November in preparation for the London games and came to have a look at how they were getting on before jetting off to Spain for a warm-up competition.

Whilst at Shardeloes he met Buckinghamshire County Council Leader Cllr Martin Tett - himself a keen equestrian in his younger days - and one of Amersham's county representatives, Cllr Martin Phillips.

Cllr Tett said: "I'm really pleased that as a host county for the Games, we're welcoming competitors from other nations to help them prepare for their events. And I love the way so many of our residents have become Games volunteers to help provide a real Buckinghamshire welcome to visitors in the summer."

Buckinghamshire is home to 23 training camps, and will welcome around 30,000 spectators a day to Dorney Lake where rowing, canoeing and adaptive canoeing events take place during the Games.

The county has a special place in Games history, as the birthplace of the Paralympic movement at Stoke Mandeville, and will host four community live-sites where more than 10,000 residents will be able to watch Games events on huge video screens.

How do we know that this man's credentials are genuine?

I really hope his papers have been given some analysis. Imagine if he is just a double agent for the Chinese government and ends up eating all of our Olympic horses? There is very little that isn't on the menu in China, so it's really not that far-fetched a suggestion.

If he isn't, I wish him all the best later this year. But I need proof first.

He has lived in the UK since he was around 11 so I do not see an issue - he is the only Chinese rider that competes in eventing nationally.

Thanks for the update. The question is what was he doing BEFORE he was 11. Hopefully not being trained in espionage at a secret location by a team of faceless Chinese government agents.

I just don't want to see the English equestrian hopes dashed when it's staring us in the face. Maybe someone should check the horses for bite marks?

If my fears are unfounded I sincerely wish him all the best later this year.

Just out of interest, does anyone know where he was when Quigley was eaten?

Isn't that nice Shardeloes Farm horse thingy owned by fellow Tory, anAmersham town councillor.

Just fancy that.

Backs well scratched, then.

Seems like media tart Martin Phillips, ex-nobody, knows how to square the press for a photoshot, judging from his active retirement.

Lotsa tories prancing around in Amersham this week.

Can't imagine why.

Oink oink.
