LATEST at 10.17pm: Transport for Bucks says gritting routes completed earlier in south and north but resuming again this hour.

SNOW has begun falling this evening around Buckinghamshire, with as much as five inches predicted to have fallen and settled by tomorrow morning.

Reports of snow fall have come in Stokenchurch, High Wycombe, Lane End, Marlow, Cressex, Chalfont St Peter amongst other places.

The first signs of the white stuff were reported around 5pm.

The Highways Agency, which is responsible for the M40, has issued an amber alert, telling drivers to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk of adverse driving conditions.

I Used to live in wyatt close and now live further up the hill. I would never drive the hills but walking them in the snow is just as dangerous!!! Come on wdc gritters come and save us in Downley!!

Hughenden Avenue is very dangerous. There have already been some bumps. There is someone in a Land Rover charging £10 to tow you up the hill!
I spoke to some people who had come from Marlow. They said the A404 didn't appear to have been gritted and Marlow Hill was extremely dangerous - again, no 'evidence' of gritting. About 4 inches of snow in this part of Downley. Take care out there everybody!

25 cm's here in chalfont, don't see much evidence of gritters, but hey, what's new, last year it was 2 days to get one, all councils talk big but when it comes to action, very little.

Have not seen any gritters out, but the roads round Beaconsfield & Penn had definatly been gritted!! Scars were travelling up & down our road on a single track ... & some seem to be driving way too fast!!
Not sure why soo many people are out in the snow!! We knew it was coming!!

Just got home, must have let the car in the middle of the hill as it's not possible to get any further on **** Ln. in HW. Saw some cars going down the hill, but they weren't able to stop at the crossroad on the bottom and went straight through!

Just seen a few posts about gritting, just to clear a few things up: grit/salt is for ice not snow. You could put as much salt down as you wanted too it would not make a difference just be like throwing your council tax money down the drain.

Be fair - Notice or no notice, grit is only effective in certain conditions. The ground was frozen when the snow started to fall which meant it settled as soon as it touched. Yesterday afternoon The gritters were in evidence, but blaming them or the council is the easy way out.

Snow ploughs would be the better option, but how many thousands of mile of roads in our area are there?

We all knew the snow was coming we had days of notice. Advice in these conditions is to stay in and not make any unnecessary journeys.

If people went out without an emergency reason to do so and got stuck or struggled to get home then tough, its not like you didn't know!

Himself, ever the intrepid, was up at 3am to clear the snow off of the 4x4; rang Arriva at 7.30am and yes they need him, so off he has gone to drive his adoring public, who will probably moan that the bus is late! We do live at the top of a very steep hill, the 4x4 does help and he is an excellent, professional driver, and we did know, when we bought our house, that this would be a difficult location in adverse weather conditions, as presumably the residents of Downley were aware when they chose their location!

As for making unnecessary journeys in bad weather and getting into difficulties, it is the abandoned vehicles and motorists who cannot handle the conditions, which make it difficult for snowploughs, emergency services, buses etc. to do their job. Totally agree with gungun, well said!

Saw a lot of people walking in the road this morning as the pavements are very slippery.

Buy a snow shovel and clear the pavements . Well I do this at least and get the thanks for it.

Anita I think it should be OK because this morning I got from Stokenchurch to Marlow. I used the B482 via Cadmore/Bolter/Lane End & it was clear plus the hill out of Marlow to Booker was clear.
