VOLUNTEERS in South Bucks could prove to be life savers with South Central Ambulance Service asking for more people to become first responders.

Having proved successful in surrounding towns, ambulance responders, in conjunction with the NHS, are hoping more people in Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross will step up to the mark in a bid to save lives.

Able volunteers will be given a training session and will qualify to help save lives and benefit people within the community.

SCAS scheme co-ordination, Marc Lister, said: “If a responder lives around the corner (from an emergency), then it means they don’t have to sit there on their own. In some cases it means an extra five minutes CPR and it genuinely saves lives.

“We have all sorts of people coming forward, but especially semi-retired people, who have some time and are still physically fit. But anyone who can help is brilliant.

“We hear about them saving lives almost on a weekly basis. It’s an absolute no-brainer, and a fantastic initiative.”

In order to volunteer, you must be physically fit, over 18-years-old, hold a full UK current driving license and have access to a car, as well as being able to spare some time to help those in need.

There are currently community first responder schemes in Bucks, Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, and it is founded by charitable donations.
