PUPILS from schools across Beaconsfield came together on Tuesday for a special Armistice Day Remembrance ceremony.

The schools taking part were Butler's Court, Holtspur Primary, St Mary and All Saints Primary, Davenies, High March, Alfriston, The Beaconsfield School and Beaconsfield High School. Also joining in was the Jank & Jill Pre-school.

Rev Jeremy Brooks of St Mary and All Saints Church, Windsor End, led the service. He said: "It was a very good service, every school in town took part.

"All the nursery children planted a poppy and a representative from each school planted a poppy cross.

"Then we had the act of Remembrance, and two trumpeters from Beaconsfield School took part."

Rev Brooks said a number of schools had written war poems to read, while another school carried out a research project and that the pupils had been affected by the poignant event.

He added: "You hope they gain a greater understanding of the impact of the First World War and the feedback from teachers was that they did."

Examples of the pupils' work went on display at the back of the church.
