Sewage was flowing through Beaconsfield again this week, with one resident who has lived in the town all her life saying it is the worst she has ever seen it with dirty water flowing outside her house for seven days.

A problem at a pumping station in Gregories Road led to sewage overflowing in Maxwell Road, with the contaminated water being sprayed onto the pavement and people’s property by passing cars.

Despite numerous calls from residents in the road, Annette Stevenson said it took a week for Thames Water to fix the problem, which has occurred on numerous occasions in recent years.

She said: “It is definitely the worst I have ever seen in this road, I cannot understand why it would take seven days to clear up.

“I had been calling Thames Water from day one and they just kept saying they needed to fix the pump in Gregories Road, but no-one did anything to stop the dirty water pouring into Maxwell Road.

“It is not just on the road either, some cars are careful, but big vehicles and other driver’s just splash through it meaning it went all over the path and on people walking.

“There have been people walking to the school up the road [St Mary and All Saints Primary School] and it could have just as easily gone over them.

“They keep saying they will fix it and it is better now but how long will it last? There is so much development going on in this town, the situation will only get worse.”

Since a new pump was fitted in Gregories Road on Tuesday the problem has not arisen again, with Thames Water apologising at the time for any inconvenience.

Before the pump was fixed, spokesman Becky Trotman said: “We’re sorry for the disruption but without them the sewage would spill out of manholes onto the streets and back up into nearby homes.”

Leader of Beaconsfield Town Council, Councillor Alan Walters, said: “We are continually getting complaints on sewage and flooding in all parts of Beaconsfield and have also had big issues in Lakes Lane and Hedgerley Lane.

“It would seem the systems in Beaconsfield, although Thames Water says they are adequate, are not up to scratch, to me it seems every time there is a problem with a pumping station or heavy rain we get flooding.

“And, any further development in the town could cause problems.”
