From famous footballers to television stars, thousands of people have got married in Buckinghamshire, and there were more than 1500 weddings and civil partnership ceremonies alone in 2014.

With over 75 licensed venues across the county including Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios, Waterside Theatre Aylesbury, Silverstone motor racing circuit, Bucks is marriage material for most couples.

Other hotels, stately homes, National Trust properties, country club and rural barns have also been used down the years, with sporting legend Steven Gerrard marrying at Cliveden in 2007 and actor Robert Lyndsay tying the knot at Buckinghamshire Golf Club one year previously.

Every wedding in this part of the world over the last 180 year has been recorded by Bucks registrars, but despite a long history the county council held its first ever wedding fair this weekend.

Organiser Rukminder Makin, County Council Registration Operational Manager, said: “To every couple, their wedding day is unique and our registrars want to do all they can to make the day very special.”

And, recently married couple Sarah and Dave Chick, from Wycombe, would agree.

Sarah said: “The ceremony was so memorable and personal to us – it was as if they had known us for ages. “We are overjoyed to be man and wife and the ceremony was one of the best bits of the whole day.”
