Free visits to some of the Buckinghamshire’s most beautiful gardens will be on offer next week as the Royal Horticultural Society takes on a new open gardens scheme.

The RHS National Open Gardens Day on Friday, April 17 will see gardens, which normally carry a fee to visit or are closed to the public, open their gates for one day only.

It is part of the society’s National Gardening Week which celebrates the beauty and diversity of the nation’s gardens.

Hall Barn’s 18th century landscape garden in Beaconsfield will be open from 1.30 until 5pm and will offer teas.

The garden, designed by John Aislabie, attracts much admiration with its woodland walk with glimpses of historical garden buildings.

Stoke Poges Memorial Garden will also be open from 13-19 April between 9am and 4pm.

Guided tours will be available on the Friday from 11am and 1pm.

The memorial garden was designed by Edward White and contains water features, a colonnade, rose gardens, woodland, rock garden and open parkland.
