BEACONSFIELD Rotary Club now has three former mayors in it ranks after it enlisted town councillor Janet Simmonds. She is the third consecutive town mayor to join, following Henry Wilson and Ken Brown. Club spokesman Peter Hodson, a former bookmaker, said the mayors would make a “great winning treble”.

AN aeroplane ejector seat made in Bucks has been nominated as one of the best ever British inventions by Beaconsfield MP Dominic Grieve. The seat, made by Martin-Baker in Denham, is thought to have saved 7,000 lives for about 100 different air forces. A 'Made By Britain' list of products has been drawn up by the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group to address the reputation problems facing the manufacturing sector.

A PRIVATE school in Beaconsfield is celebrating after 89 per cent of its final year pupils passed the 11-plus exam to win places at grammar schools. High March, on Ledborough Lane, says it also had a record year for scholarships to independent senior schools with a total of twelve awards being given to its girls.

A CHARITY raised a whopping £52,000 after thousands of children helped break a world record for the most people performing a song in sign-language simultaneously. Guiness World Records have confirmed that 94,489 schoolchildren from around the world took part in the attempt, smashing the previous record of about 13,000. Pupils from Great Britain, the Falklands Islands, Nigeria, the USA and Uganda took part in the 'sign2sing' bid - organised by Beaconsfield-based SignHealth in February.

AN Elvis tribute night is coming to Beaconsfield in September to raise cash for a cardiac rehabilitation charity. There are 100 tickets available for the event on September 18 at the Old Bengal Restaurant in Wycombe End, which will include a food, a raffle and tribute artist JC Aron. BUS services in Beaconsfield and Seer Green have been revised, with the old 305 and 580 services taken over by Carousel and given new route numbers. The 305 is now numbered 580 and the last journey to and from Gerrards Cross has been cut. The old 580 becomes the 577, with journeys extended to Hazlemere Park Parade. REPRESENTATIVES of the Beaconsfield Twinning Association celebrated Bastille Day with the residents of Langres this month. The party also joined guests from fellow twinned towns Ellwangan of Germany and Abbiategrasso of Italy. The group stood on the podium to watch the Bastille Day parade and toured philosopher Diderot’s birth place.

GERRARDS CROSS supermarket Fishers is hosting an al fresco wine tasting event in Stoke Poges tonight (Friday).
