Restaurant plans for old cinema approved

PLANS to turn a former cinema in Beaconsfield into an Italian restaurant have been approved by a council.

The scheme would mean the end for Zoom Children's Adventure Funhouse, which currently occupies the building at 12 -14 Station Road.

Zoom Enterprises Ltd says it is “no longer able to support an unviable business” and the building needs to be refurbished.

In documents submitted to South Bucks District Council, Zoom said it is too reliant on rainy weather and has been hit by the economic downturn.

The council has approved a change of use for the property, to create an upmarket Prezzo Restaurant.

The building used to house The Chiltern Cinema, which closed in the 1980s shortly after a six screen multiplex opened in Cressex, High Wycombe (now Empire).

Zoom is unviable because the owner is such a grump and wants to charge a fortune for private parties. he quoted me £2k to have exclusive access for 2 hours.
It's a shame the place can't be turned back into a cinema, like the small Everyman Cinema chain, but good luck to Prezzo. Sadly, they are a national chain, no more upmarket than Pizza Express.

I wish them luck - with the recent closure of Capriccio in Hazlemere and Rossini in Wendover it is a veritable Italian desert out there - or is it a dessert??

I agree that Zoom is very overpriced, which is probably why it is no longer a viable business - 7 or 8 quid per child is fairly steep to be honest!!
