SUPPORTERS of Malvern’s community hospital have launched one of their biggest-ever fundraising efforts to buy a vital piece of equipment.

The appeal is starting in style with a glittering fashion show later this month at the Bank House, Bransford.

The Friends of Malvern Community Hospital have set a target of £60,000 to buy a CR image intensifier, a type of X-ray machine, for a new pain clinic at the hospital.

The new clinic means patients with chronic pain will no longer need to travel to Worcester or Kidderminster for treatment.

Friends’ secretary Maureen Williams said: “This fund-raising drive is certainly the biggest thing that this committee has done, so we wanted a special event to launch it.” The fashion show will feature stylish models from Isis Boutique in Church Street,Great Malvern.

There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, and trade stands.

Mrs Williams said: “It’s going to be a really good evening, and we are very grateful to everyone who’s supporting it.

“Jill from Isis has been fantastic – she’s providing the clothes and the models free of charge, and she’s helped us in lots of ways.

“I also want to thank all the local businesses that have helped me, have donated raffle prizes or are providing stands."

Alex Borg, of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said the image intensifier is vital for treatments like lumbar therapeutic injections because the image makes it possible to place a needle precisely.

“It will mean that as well as running outpatient clinics, we will also be able to provide some treatment procedures on site at Malvern Community Hospital," he said.

“We’d like to thank the League of Friends for their hard work.

We’re very grateful for their support.”

The show is on Friday, March 22.

Tickets, £12.50 including a glass of wine, are available from Mrs Williams at 5 Summerfield Road, Malvern WR14 1DY or 01684 575937,or fromIsisBoutique.
