A RECORD number of people joined one of the South East’s largest football tournaments at the weekend to make it “one of the best ever”.

During the 21st ‘Sportsfest’, over 100 teams competed during one day of play whilst about 3000 spectators cheered them on.

The competition is held annually in Wooburn Green for the junior football stars of tomorrow.

MC on the day, David Kimber, said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day, it was a bit wet in the morning and we thought that could cause problems.

“However, the sun came out and it turned out to be a really nice day.

“There were lots of people there as well as the teams and I definitely think this 21st Sportsfest was one of the best ever.”

Although a lot of entertainment was on offer at Wooburn Park, in Town Lane, the football was what everyone came to see.

There was also a World Cup atmosphere during the day as four teams from a French village competed against their Bucks counterparts.

The teams from Octeville-sur-Mer, a village twinned with Bourne End, got fully involved in the event as they finished in the final, losing to an English side after a penalty shoot-out.
