A 10-YEAR-OLD girl recently donated a large amount of her hair to a children’s cancer charity which makes wigs for young girls and boys who have lost their hair.

The primary school child went to Keith the Barbers in The Parade, Bourne End, but surprised her hairdresser by asking for a slightly shorter cut than normal.

Both Grace Patrick’s mother Jenny and hairdresser, Sacha Williams, said they were shocked when the little girl, who lives in Prestwood, asked for the big style change, and they could not believe it when she told them the reason.

Grace who suffers from arthritis, decided to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust after reading about their good work on the internet.

Mrs Patrick said: “I did not know anything about this charity, but Grace did and she had read about what they did online.

“I think it is really good of her to do that and it is something which is very caring.

“It is a very long ponytail she has had cut-off, it was almost down to her bum, but she wanted all of it to be donated to charity.

“I did not know she wanted it done and couldn’t really believe it, but obviously I was in full support, and I am very proud.”

Ms Williams, who works at the Bourne End barbers, told the Bucks Free Press she was ‘overwhelmed’ by what the girl wanted to do.

She said: “It is such a kind, thoughtful, unbelievable thing to do.

“You wouldn’t necessarily expect adults to be brave enough to do this, never mind a 10-year-old girl.”

Grace is not the first person to be praised for donating their hair to the charity as signer Jessie J famously gave her locks to the Trust.

The charity provides real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

The Trust also recently partnered Macmillan Cancer Support during the ‘shave or style’ campaign in July, earlier this year.

The group have also been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
