There have been many changes at a Bourne End secondary school this year following their rebranding and transformation into an academy.

They Wye Valley School became the Bourne End Academy in September and in an aim to finish their first term with a bang, students and teachers alike helped put on a music show to remember.

The New Road school opened their doors to parents and music fans for their performance of We Will Rock You across three nights last week.

After many rehearsals the show went off without a hitch and appeared to be well received by the audience.

As always, parents can often be children’s biggest critics and one parent, Miriam Blazey, wrote her own review of the performance:

Bourne End Academy’s first musical We Will Rock You – based on the music of Queen - was Flash-tastic!

The school were taking a huge leap of faith in putting on their first ever musical but if the first night (Tuesday, December 16) was anything to go by they should have no fears in doing another one.

Although the audience was smaller on the first night the attendance grew massively over the next two evenings.

And the audience responded to the music and the talented acting like a proper West End audience complete with a standing ovation.

The acting and singing were excellent – helped by a great live band - and the dancing was what we have come to expect from Bourne End Academy as previous Global Rock finalists.

Christmas treats don’t come much better than that.
