Rowing machines, cross trainers and fixed bicycles have all been installed as part of an outdoor gym in Holtspur which is believed to have cost around £20,000.

As part of a joint venture from the Beaconsfield Town Council and Friends of Holtspur Park work was finally finished this month and the equipment was officially opened by the town’s deputy mayor, councillor John Read.

A whole host of equipment has been installed as part of the project at the park in Holtspur Way, one year after the idea was first put forward.

One of the people behind the project was chairman of the town council Open Spaces Committee, cllr Philip Bastiman.

Following the opening on Saturday morning, he said: “Last December, local residents told us they wanted an outdoor gym in the Holtspur Park.

“We have delivered this excellent new facility and will be working with the community to enable people of all ages to be healthier and more active.

“I am especially grateful to the local volunteers from the Friends of Holtspur Park for their support.”

Cllr Read added: “I am delighted to open the gym which shows how the town council listens to local people and does what it can to help them achieve their goals.”

However, work is not yet finished and Andrea Essery, the chairman of the Friends of Holtspur Park said the group are continuing to fundraise for a new playground and teenage fitness area.

She said: “I am proud of the work our volunteers have put in to help the town council to transform the park, which will benefit everyone in Holtspur.

“I am looking forward to the installation of a new playground and teenage fitness area next spring, which we will continue to raise funds for.”

The next fund raising event for the Friends of Holtspur Park is a curry and bingo night on January 24.
