A six-year-old, who always wanted to be like Rapunzel as she was growing up, has raised more than £1,000 for charity after having about 14 inches of her hair cut off.

Young Madison Anns, who lives in Loudwater, decided she wanted to boost two charities by having a haircut for only the second time.

Her family have now raised more than four times their original target, with the funds due to be donated to The Brain Tumour Charity, while the hair will be given to the Little Princess Trust – who make wigs for children who have lost their hair because of cancer.

Madison’s mother, Tina Anns, said: “I am just blown away actually, I can’t believe how much we have been able to raise.

“We originally set a target of £250 but it has gone well over that and some money is still coming in, the support has been phenomenal and we are just thrilled.

“She had 14 inches of hair cut off and she loves how it looks. I had been a bit worried she wouldn’t like it, but she was so excited and is very happy.”

Loudwater Combined School, where Madison is a pupil, are also hoping to some money to boost the charity, which the family picked following the death of Tina’s cousin.

Last week the family said they know firsthand the good work of the charity, with their 32-year-old relative losing her battle about two years ago.
