A COUNCIL boss says she is ‘pleased’ her authority set the lowest Council tax increase in Buckinghamshire.
Councillor Lesley Clarke released a public statement after Wycombe District Council set an increase of 1.75 per cent for its part of the final bill, about ten per cent of its total cost.
She said the rise is the lowest in five years and lower than four other district councils, Buckinghamshire County Council and fire and police authorities.
Cllr Clarke said: “Council tax bills are a major part of any household budget.
“We are pleased that having looked at our budget for next year, we've been able to keep the increase to our share of the bill at an affordable level.
“Setting this year's budget has been a lengthy and challenging exercise and one that was influenced by the budget consultation that we held last year.
“We will continue to look at the ways we work and aim for further efficiencies in order to deliver value for money services to our residents.”
The increase will see a band D home give £126.99 to the council in the 12 months from April, compared to £124.77 this year.
The Conservative-controlled authority rejected a freeze proposed by the Liberal Democrats (see link below for full report).
Chiltern District Council agreed a 2.5 per cent increase for its part of the final bill and South Bucks District Council decided on a 2 per cent rise.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council, which borders Wycombe and includes Cookham, agreed a four per cent decrease.
