Schools in Princes Risborough, High Wycombe and Wooburn Green celebrate World Book Day

PUPILS and staff excelled themselves for World Book Day last Thursday and dressed up as a host of characters from their favourite books.

More than 80 per cent of Princes Risborough School pupils dressed up as a menagerie of characters including the resident Labrador dog Alfie dressing up as a dalmatian from 101 Dalmatians.

There was a chance for pupils to use their £1 book token in the library to buy Osborne books with half of the proceeds going to Haiti and half going to the library.

Students also entered a quiz and in English lessons were encouraged to design their own book.

Librarian Sue Gough said: “It was a wonderful day. The day was really to get everyone focusing on characters from books and thinking about books for the day.

“People were asking each other in the corridors what character they were and learning about books.”

At the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre children were invited to their after-school party to celebrate the day and the launch of the Fantastic Mr Fox DVD.

Visitors got the chance to dress up and join in with Foxy party games, storytelling and crafts.

Millbrook Combined School in High Wycombe saw teachers and pupils dressing up as their favourite characters including librarian Vanessa Carver dressing up as Snape from Harry Potter.

They had guest readers in all week including headmaster of Cressex School David Hood and MP Paul Goodman was going to read but had to rearrange for next week due to illness.

The Meadows School in Wooburn Green also joined in the fun and held a World Book Day assembly.
