  • "So we have the undignified sight of WDC Councillors calling upon BCC Councillors on the OSC-Health Committee to do what they are already required to do, i.e. "to hold the PCT to account" and then adds the additional caveat "for not taking into consideration non-clinical views".
    -
How should this be interpreted? Are "non-clinical views" any opposing or supporting views expressed however weakly these views are supported by facts / evidence?
    -
The changes being proposed are aimed at improving clinical outcomes for all of the people of Bucks. We do not have a segregated NHS South Bucks and NHS North Bucks; the Bucks PCT is tasked with providing healthcare to all of the people of Bucks which will provide the best clinical outcomes assessed using professional expertise supported by facts / evidence whilst using the resources available to them. Unless I have been hearing / reading information different from that being offered to others this is what they have been attempting to do.

Stewart George is - to my mind, rightly - indicating that the conclusions reached at the end of the consultation process will be arrived at with the objective of providing healthcare to all of the people of Bucks which will provide the best clinical outcomes assessed using professional expertise supported by facts / evidence whilst using the resources available to them as qualified by input from the people of Bucks which is similarly supported by facts / evidence.
    -
Hopefully they will not be influenced by 'the loudest voices' expressing their views unsupported by facts / evidence.
    -
The WDC Councillors, our Wycombe MP and the BFP could be seen as merely grandstanding with the objective of enhancing their image amongst a sub-section of their South Bucks electorate which they hope will enhance their chances of re-election or sale of copies of the BFP.
    -
Or they could - more charitably - merely be being short-sighted!"

Unified WDC calls for county to take NHS to task

COUNCILLORS put party politics to one side as they joined forces to tell NHS chiefs ‘we will fight for our hospital’.

In a sight rarely seen in Wycombe District Council’s Chamber, every member raised their hand to back a motion demanding their county colleagues hold health bosses to account.

NHS Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire PCT Cluster plan a major transfer of specialist services from Wycombe Hospital to Stoke Mandeville.

Its joint chairman Stewart George has come under fire after stating only clinical evidence - rather than public opinion - could force a U-turn on the proposals (see links).

At Full Council on Monday night, a unified WDC vowed to send a cross-party delegation to express their concerns directly to health ministers and urged the county council to take the PCT to task over the “sham” consultation.

The motion states: “This council calls upon the County Council Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee to hold the PCT to account for not taking into consideration non-clinical views.

“The council also recommends this matter is referred by the County Council’s Committee to the Minister for Health.

“This council also recommends the final outcome of the Better Healthcare in Bucks consultation is referred to the Secretary of State for Health, in the event the substantive service changes proposed do not meet the health needs of all residents in an accessible manner, as stated in their response to the consultation.”
