Family pays tribute to Marie McGrory

FAMILY and friends have paid tribute to Marie McGrory - whose husband John has been jailed for 14 years for her murder.

Care assistant Marie, 39, who was better known as ‘Milly’, was strangled by the ex-soldier in the kitchen of their Wooburn Green home on January 3.

See related links for background on the pair's troubled relationship, as well as stories about the trial.

Det Ch Insp Vince Grey, the officer who led the murder investigation, said: “McGrory has robbed the family of this time that they would have spent with Milly due to a cowardly and malicious act.

“I am pleased with the verdict and hopefully, although Milly will never be forgotten, her family can start to move forward and use the obvious love they held for Milly to rebuild their lives.”

A statement released on behalf of her family and friends said: "Words will never be enough to describe the pain all of us feel.

“Milly was a special, loving person and whoever came into contact with her could feel her warmth and love. Our families’ lives will never be the same again knowing the way she was taken.

"Milly was and is love, her whole life and demeanor was all about love and peaceful spiritual understanding.

“Watching the changing moon, the changing seasons and mother earth without you will always hurt.

“Will we ever hit the floor giggling until we cry again? We will always think and dream of you with tears behind our smiles. Although your light is now behind the veil it can never be diminished, shine on sweetly star.”

My view is that Inspector Grey should stick to solving murders and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

What we can all agree on is that it is incredibly tragic for a marriage to end in this manner.

He is over-stepping the mark by making these comments and should perhaps focus on his next case?

When a marriage is blown apart in this manner in the full glare of publicity then everyone wants to know the gory details.
However, only the couple involved will know the full facts of what came to pass, so there Inspector Grey!

Stalemate, what is wrong with what the Inspector said? It was to the point I don't see the fault.

Stalemate - "what we can all agree on" is that this man is a convicted murderer - and murder is a cowardly and malicious act that in this case has robbed a family of a loved one.
His comments are perfectly justified.

Yes well the trouble with that theory is that one half of the couple is dead, murdered by the other half.
Inspector Grey's remarks were perfectly fine.
Why would anyone have a problem with them?

Demoness, I have no issue with the comments. My concern is that it is not the role of the police to make them!

The police have always made comment after trials. This happens in every force, even unsuccessful trials.

In favour of censorship, then, presumably? Who is better qualified to tell the public about a case than the man who has been involvd in it, and seen, first hand, the devastation wreaked on the woman's family?
