Parents call for new crossing near Wooburn Green school
7:40am Monday 30th July 2012 in Bourne End & Wooburns By Lawrence Dunhill
WORRIED parents are calling for a council to scrap a zebra crossing near a primary school in Wooburn Green.
The mums and dads, mostly connected with St Paul's CE School, want Bucks County Council to replace the Brookbank zebra, at the end of Stratford Drive, with ‘controlled’ a pelican crossing instead.
They have submitted a 250-name petition which says: "If we want to encourage our children to walk to and from school, to support access to public transport and to create safe spaces for pedestrians, this crossing needs to be one that is controlled and one at which vehicles stop.
"Brookbank is at the end of a stretch of road where vehicles consistently exceed the 30mph speed limit. The current zebra crossing is not sufficient in slowing down vehicles nor in ensuring that they stop."
The council said the petition will be forwarded to local councillors and it will be scheduled to be discussed at the next of the Chepping Wye Valley Local Area forum.

Why don't the PTA/school pay for this? If they cover the costs then the council will probably me encouraged to act sooner.
Once done, they can install a red-light camera, make a fortune and pay the school back.
