A PROJECT to help older people stay both physically and mentally active has received a cash boost from the Paradigm Foundation charity.

An Ageing Well Conference at Bucks New University on June 27 will demonstrate the work of the Movers and Shakers clubs, which introduce older people to activities such as jazzercise and zumba.

Launched in July, the Paradigm charity has donated £250,000 to date.

Olga McBarnett, who leads the project for Buckinghamshire County Council and the Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: "This event will showcase the many activities available for older people, encourage them to learn something new and promote the benefits of our clubs.

"The project is about giving people confidence, helping them interact with others and to be healthier and happier."

More than 200 people across Bucks participate in the 14 existing Movers and Shakers clubs. It is hoped to set up more in the near future.

Mike Gahagan, Chair of the Paradigm Foundation, says: "Almost a quarter of the people living in Bucks are aged 60 or older so this scheme really is vital to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

“I am delighted the Foundation has been able to support this project."

The Conference takes place on June 27 from 9.30am at the Gateway Building of Bucks New University.
