Chesham Park Community College set for refurbishment

“EXCITING” times are in store for a Chesham school after it was successful in its bid for a share of Government cash.

Staff at Chesham Park Community College found out yesterday they were in for a cash windfall that would allow a major refurbishment of the Chartridge Lane school.

It is one of six schools in the county to share £80million made available by the Building Schools for the Future scheme.

Delighted headteacher Kevin Patrick told the Bucks Free Press: “What this enables us to do is ensure the learning environment is the very best for the young people in the Chesham area. We can offer teaching of a high quality in a 21st century teaching area.

“I'm pleased to see it there in black and white and it's not a rumour any more.

“There were lots of cheers when I told the staff this morning, and it was the same with the students in assembly.”

Mr Patrick did not wish to say what precisely the money would be spent on.

But he said: “We will involve the local community, school students future and current to think about the areas we want to develop.

“It's going to be very exciting.”

He added: “The local authority have been central in bidding for the initial investment, so well done to them.”

Meanwhile this week the school welcomed more than 20 European students in the final leg of four inter-college visits as part of the British Council-funded Comenius Project.

Students from Poland, Slovenia and Germany are visiting Chesham this week, staying with host families and finding out more about each country's culture.

During their visit to Chesham the European students will be visiting the Houses of Parliament and hope to interview some MPs.
