COOKHAM Dean pupils are to join a major concert set up by the largest children choir organiser in the world at the O2 Arena tomorrow.

In total, 36 Herries Preparatory School pupils will perform alongside 7,000 other primary school children from London and surroundings for an estimated crowd of at least 14,000.

The event is organized by Young Voices (YV) and its own charity YV Foundation, bringing to the stage among other attractions, the African children choir who performed at the Queen’s Jubilee.

Music and drama coordinator, teacher Jami Castell, revealed that the Cookham children have been rehearsing since the beginning of their autumn term, in September last year.

Since then they have learnt a wide range of songs, around 17 titles from the classic to rock music, as well some minor choreography to go with some of the songs.

A further rehearsal involving all of the children performing at the concert will take place on the afternoon of January 28 at the arena.

Mrs Castell said: “It’s an amazing opportunity and because we are such a small school, the event is huge for the children. It’s a major excitement and it really brings them out of themselves.”

YV also offers support to the little ones by fundraising for children with cancer and by collecting food items for those in need during their concerts.

The 2013 concert is the third appearance of the Herries pupils of Years 3 to 5 since 2009.
