Snow grips Bucks this evening
7:06pm Saturday 4th February 2012 in Cookham By James Nadal
LATEST at 11.07pm: Live traffic reports say as many as 100 cars have reportedly been abandoned on M40.
Hazardous driving conditions and stationary traffic due to snow on M40 both ways between J4 High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout and J6 B4009 Watlington.
LATEST at 10.50pm: Unconfirmed reports on M40 southbound from Oxford to Stokenchurch of drivers losing grip on road, wheel spinning and highways officials having to help motorists.
LATEST at 10.17pm: Transport for Bucks says gritting routes completed earlier in south and north but resuming again this hour.
SNOW has begun falling this evening around Buckinghamshire, with as much as five inches predicted to have fallen and settled by tomorrow morning.
Reports of snow fall have come in Stokenchurch, High Wycombe, Lane End, Marlow, Cressex, Chalfont St Peter amongst other places.
The first signs of the white stuff were reported around 5pm.
The Highways Agency, which is responsible for the M40, has issued an amber alert, telling drivers to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk of adverse driving conditions.

I spoke to some people who had come from Marlow. They said the A404 didn't appear to have been gritted and Marlow Hill was extremely dangerous - again, no 'evidence' of gritting. About 4 inches of snow in this part of Downley. Take care out there everybody!

Snow ploughs would be the better option, but how many thousands of mile of roads in our area are there?
We all knew the snow was coming we had days of notice. Advice in these conditions is to stay in and not make any unnecessary journeys.
If people went out without an emergency reason to do so and got stuck or struggled to get home then tough, its not like you didn't know!

As for making unnecessary journeys in bad weather and getting into difficulties, it is the abandoned vehicles and motorists who cannot handle the conditions, which make it difficult for snowploughs, emergency services, buses etc. to do their job. Totally agree with gungun, well said!

Anita I think it should be OK because this morning I got from Stokenchurch to Marlow. I used the B482 via Cadmore/Bolter/Lane End & it was clear plus the hill out of Marlow to Booker was clear.
